Many years ago the school participated in Erasmus programmes but only recently it has resumed the projects, since 2022. The "history" of the School dates back to July 16, 1960. It was then called "Colegio de Nossa Senhora do Carmo", a name given by Manuela de Brito. In 1962/63, it became known as "Instituto das Irmãs Doroteias", operating at this time as an internal and external school.

Currently the School is called "Escola Secundária de Severim de Faria". In the 1989/90 academic year, restoration and expansion works were completed to make this educational space more adapted to the demands of modern schools. In the 1994/95 academic year, new changing rooms were opened to support outdoor sports infrastructures, the construction of which was completed in the same academic year. The reorganization of the exterior space will soon begin, which in addition to the new fence will include a new entrance to be placed in a location to be defined. These measures will result from an agreement that the school will try to promote between the local authority and the Alentejo Regional Directorate, with a view to a different framework that guarantees better access and security conditions for the school.
